Computational Humanities Credentials
Humanists with expertise in the computational humanities are urgently needed. Libraries, museums, archives and peer humanities departments are actively seeking colleagues with the expertise to help them understand and shape these technologies.
Computational humanities graduates leave equipped to better interpret the world — and to change it. They are prepared to go on to faculty positions, libraries, archives, museums, technology firms, advocacy organizations, and public cultural institutions, bringing humanistic values and methodological range into roles that increasingly require both.

Ph.D. in Computational Cultural Studies
A fully funded research doctorate — six years of guaranteed support — training scholars to produce original, field-shaping work combining literary and cultural theory with computational analysis.

Computational humanities at CMU is supported by a substantial endowment. While fundraising continues to be ongoing, funds currently support four competitive Ph.D. fellowships annually, small seed grants for research projects in computational humanities, instructional support, and community-building events.
To be eligible for a computational humanities fellowship, Ph.D. students must be enrolled in either the Computational Cultural Studies Ph.D. program or the Computational Humanities Doctoral Certificate program.
Ph.D. Certificate in Computational Humanities
A university-wide credential open to doctoral students across CMU — from the humanities and social sciences to fine arts to software engineering — building an interdisciplinary research community and extending humanistic thinking across the institution.
M.S. in Computational Humanities
Enrolling for fall 2027
A high-utility master's degree completed in 12 months, with a required summer practicum applying computational methods to real-world humanistic problems. Available as a stand-alone degree and as a 4+1 master’s pathway for CMU undergraduates. The program prepares graduates for academic, cultural and industry careers where data literacy and humanistic judgment are both in demand.
Humanities Analytics Minor
The Humanities Analytics (HumAn) minor prepares you for a career in technology, cultural commentary, natural language processing, museums and libraries, data journalism or academia. Available to CMU undergraduates.
